Davide Monaldi was born in 1983 in San Benedetto del Tronto, a town near Ascoli Piceno in the Marche region of Italy. He is a sculptor and works in ceramics.
Monaldi values daily contact with his material and his pieces, in a serene atmosphere that lets them be contemplated, not just viewed.
The sculptures now presented in juxtaposition with the Giuseppe Iannaccone Collection are the outcome of a long project undertaken especially for these law offices, in which the artist has tried to give a meaning to things left suspended. His work creates a sense of disorientation: are these comic figures, true heroes, or devastated people who refuse to see what’s going on around them?
I don’t think it’s possible to create a work that expresses a single feeling. That’s how I feel, any sensation I experience is mitigated by the opposite feeling, and that’s how my works are, too: sweet and sour.
